"I am very proud of our team," said Dr. Peterson. "Their expertise in planning, preparing and executing an event of this type and size, from a safety and medical perspective, reminds me of why I chose to work for Franciscan St. Francis Health," he said. "You couldn't ask for a more dedicated group of medical professionals who truly care about their work and the people they serve," he added.
Their medical team's commitment to assist runners throughout the course and at the finish line is top notch. Their expert team is prepared to tend to participants' health needs from start to finish. However, preparing for such a task isn't easy. The team meets regularly months in advance, leading up to the Expo which you'll find loads of information about everything from cold weather training to runner's toe to proper nutrition the night before the race. And speaking of the night before the race, the team comes together to pack, deliver and setup supplies. The morning of the race is go-time. Early risers gather to setup the remaining supplies in the medical tents and in the triage area, while others go to their designated medical stations out on the course to do the same. You'll also find their staff helping with opening ceremonies at the start line, interacting with the media, and taking photos. In addition, their team of athletic trainers are busy riding bikes to their designated areas that they cover on the course. Once the race begins, you'll find them cheering on the participants and waiting at the finish line with medals and refreshments.
As they say, "it takes a village to raise a child," and without Franciscan St. Francis Health, we couldn't pull off such a successful and growing event year after year. So thank you, Franciscan St. Francis Health, for your love of the race, your commitment, your expertise and your energizing spirit!
